Trump: Coronavirus Deaths Will Reach ‘Horrific Point’ Before ‘Light at the End of the Tunnel’

President Donald Trump has warned that U.S. deaths from Coronavirus will get seriously worse. Speaking at a briefing on Sunday, the President issued the advice with his characteristic dramatic language but he was simply repeating what health officials have been saying for some time.

“We will reach a horrific point in terms of deaths from Coronavirus, but from that point, things will start to change. We are very close to that level,” Trump said.

However, an increasingly nervous Trump is trying to have it both ways on the global pandemic. While saying, truthfully, that there will be many more deaths, the President also continues to claim things will get better quickly.

“We see light at the end of the tunnel. Things are happening, things are happening,” Trump said.

“We are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully in the not too distant future, we’ll be very proud of the job we all did.”

However, the administration is bracing for a ‘Pearl Harbor week’ of Covid-19.

Trump’s apparent optimism may be driven by his desire to reopen the economy, which medical experts are strongly advising against. Some of the President’s political and media allies have argued that there is no need for the current social distancing measures, but Trump is receiving mixed messages from the conservative sections of the media.
