Tulsi Gabbard Drops Out of Presidential Race and Endorses Joe Biden

Tulsi Gabbard has dropped out of the Democratic presidential race. The Hawaii congresswoman failed to make any real traction during the primaries but it was thought she might try to stay in the race despite having almost no chance at the nomination.

In a move that will surprise many, including Gabbard’s own supporters, she has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden, who is now effectively the front runner.

“I know Vice President Biden and his wife and am grateful to have called his son Beau, who also served in the National Guard, a friend,” Gabbard said in an email to supporters.

“Although I may not agree with the vice president on every issue, I know that he has a good heart and is motivated by his love for our country and the American people.”

Gabbard also posted a video on her Twitter account discussing the fact she was dropping out.

“Today, I’m suspending my presidential campaign, and offering my full support to Vice President Joe Biden in his quest to bring our country together,” she said.

Gabbard picked up 2 delegates in American Samoa, where she was born, but the primary there was won with a wide margin by former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

Her decision to endorse Biden will seem strange to many. Gabbard attacked the Democratic establishment, ostensibly from the left, and got into something of a spat with the party’s 2016 nominee, Hillary Clinton.
