‘Fox & Friends’ Suggests Americans Should Drink in Their Front Yards and Sidewalks to Keep Spirits Up

Fox & Friends hosts have recommended that Americans should maintain social distancing but continue to socialize by drinking on sidewalks and in their yards. The Fox News hosts spoke to Stuart Varney, who contributes to Fox Business and the news channel, mostly on economic matters. But on Thursday he made a suggestion that would be illegal in many parts of the country.

“Let me just give you a real fast story if I may say,” Varney said. “Social distancing is clearly moving us all apart. At the time like this, I think America comes together. For example, the executive producer of my program, his name is Justin Monardo, lives a small New Jersey town.”

“Every night this week at 5.30 his neighbors walk out onto the front sidewalk and they stand there, 20 or 30 yards apart. They laugh at each other, they crack jokes with each other. They don’t share a glass of wine. They have a glass of wine. And that’s a way of coming together at a distance and I think that’s common all across America. We are coming together even as we are being forced apart.”

Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy appeared to endorse the idea.

“Stuart, during that walk I mentioned just a moment ago, I was talking to one of my neighbors and they said we’re going to do that on Friday,” Doocy said.

“It’s pouring here in New York City today. But everybody’s gonna put a lawn chair in their front yard right by the street and don’t be surprised if there are some adult beverages.”

Though laws differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, drinking in front yards or especially on the sidewalk is against the law in many places. It’s important to observe whatever laws are in effect before taking up Fox News’ suggestion.
