Bernie Sanders ‘Reassessing’ Campaign as His Path to the Nomination Narrows

As former Vice President Joe Biden has racked up win after win in Democratic presidential primaries since Super Tuesday, Senator Bernie Sanders’ path to the nomination has grown narrower and narrower. This week, he lost by wide margins in Florida, Arizona and Illinois.

Sanders had some initial success, winning Iowa and New Hampshire, states that are generally seen as bellwethers. But Biden won the South Carolina primary and then made huge gains on Super Tuesday, cementing his position as the frontrunner.

After a series of losses, Sanders is now ‘reassessing’ his campaign, according to multiple reports. Whether this means he plans to drop out of the race before the convention remains to be seen.

“The next primary contest is at least three weeks away. Senator Sanders is going to be having conversations with supporters to assess his campaign,” his campaign manager Faiz Shakir said in a statement.

“In the immediate term, however, he is focused on the government response to the Coronavirus outbreak and ensuring that we take care of working people and the most vulnerable.”

Biden now looks on course to securing the nomination, even if he needs to go to the second ballot at the Democratic convention to get it. Speculation is already mounting about who he might pick for the vice presidential slot. He has already said he will choose a woman,
