Scarborough Invokes the ‘Spirit of Chris Matthews’ and Jokes ‘Is Bernie Glad We Won the Cold War?’

MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosted New York Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday to discuss Coronavirus response and the Democratic presidential race. Host Joe Scarborough once again brought up Senator Bernie Sanders past comments about Cuba and the Soviet Union.

Scarborough was asking de Blasio about those comments and kept interrupting the Mayor’s attempts to answer him and justified the interruptions by invoking the recently resigned Chris Matthews, who’s been accused of making several inappropriate comments.

“By the way, I’m being with you, this is, the Spirit of Chris Matthews now,” Scarborough said. “I’m interrupting you every three seconds now. People need more Chris. We love Chris and miss Chris, but that is the argument. Literacy programs in Cuba? That’s the Mussolini argument, he made the trains run on time. Nothing more. Nothing less.”

“I agree with you, in fact, Joe. We’re gonna have a moment of beautiful coming together here,” de Blasio said.

“It’s beautiful. I’m feeling very wonderful right now,” Scarborough said.

De Blasio said that voters want to hear about bread and butter issues, saying “The Cold War’s long since over.”

“But we won and we’re glad about it. Is Bernie glad we won the Cold War? I kid. I kid because I love,” Scarborough said.

“What Bernie needs to do and I’ll do it as supporter of Bernie get back to the basics. We don’t want to talk about things from decades ago not even pertinent to the American discussion anymore,” de Blasio said.
