Joe Scarborough: Senators Won’t Want to Be Associated with Lindsey Graham ‘In History’

As the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump is set to begin in the Senate next week, there’s much speculation about how certain Republican senators will behave. At least some GOP senators are expected to seek a fair trial, and MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough believes many of them won’t want to go down in history along with Trump defender Lindsey Graham.

The Washington Post‘s David Ignatius discussed the potential danger to the Senate’s reputation of mishandling the trial and made reference to Senators Pat Roberts and Lamar Alexander, both of whom are Republicans seen as crucial players in the trial. Both are about to retire.

“And these two gentlemen and other members of the Senate are not gonna want to be associated for the rest of their lives and in history with Lindsey Graham, a guy who’s so desperate to avoid a primary challenge that he’s completely changed his viewpoints,” Scarborough said.

“And we all know why he’s done it, and we all know why Lindsey is saying he doesn’t want a fair trial. He’s not going to provide a fair trial, why Mitch McConnell’s saying he doesn’t want a fair trial, he’s not gonna provide a fair trial.”

“History is going to treat these politicians very badly, and if you are retiring, you can actually, you have the luxury, or if you’re Mitt Romney, you have the luxury of saying, I’m gonna do what’s right and the American people want to hear the evidence, they want to know what really went down and what John Bolton called this drug deal. So I’m going to vote for transparency.”
