Cory Booker Drops Out of the Presidential Race

Senator Cory Booker has dropped out of the presidential race. The New Jersey Democrat is the latest candidate to leave the race ahead of the crucial Iowa caucus on 3 February. Booker had been pulling in single digits as other candidates had pulled ahead.

“It’s with a full heart that I share this news—I’m suspending my campaign for president,” Booker said. “To my team, supporters, and everyone who gave me a shot—thank you. I am so proud of what we built, and I feel nothing but faith in what we can accomplish together.”

President Donald Trump was quick to weigh in, mocking Booker as he has attacked other candidates who have left the race, including Julián Castro.

It remains to be seen if Booker will endorse any of the remaining candidates. Castro endorsed Senator Elizabeth Warren shortly after he dropped out of the race. Booker’s departure narrows the field still further with just weeks to go before the first votes are cast.
