Obama Has ‘Gone to Bat’ for Elizabeth Warren with Wealthy Democratic Donors

Former President Barack Obama has been praising Senator Elizabeth Warren during private conversations with wealthy donors to the Democratic Party, according to a new report in The Hill newspaper. While Warren has been criticizing billionaire donors, Obama has defended her to some of those very same people.

“He’s asked all of the candidates who have sought his advice three questions: Is your family behind you? Why you? And why now? She checked the box for all,” one source said, identified as a ‘longtime Obama ally.’

“I think he feels licensed to give an opinion on her because he’s ‘hired’ her,” the person is quoted as saying.

While Obama hasn’t endorsed Warren or any of the Democratic presidential hopefuls, he has said that the party should get behind whomever wins the nomination. Of course, the current front runner is Obama’s own vice president, Joe Biden.

The article claims Obama has ‘gone to bat for Warren’ in private conversations with donors and ‘has vouched for her credentials, making it clear in these private sessions that he deems her a capable candidate and potential president.’

This is an interesting development as Obama remains one of the most popular Democratic politicians, both in the party and the country at large. There’s little doubt that Obama will endorse the Democratic presidential candidate in 2020, but if the reports are true, he may believe that Warren could pull off a surprise victory in a still crowded field.
