GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert Likens Impeachment to Pearl Harbor: ‘A Day That Will Live in Infamy’
Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert has slammed the impeachment process by echoing the language of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. During Thursday’s debate on articles of impeachment in the House Judiciary Committee, Gohmert invoked the World War II era Democrat.
Gohmert claimed that there was no basis for impeachment and linked the current process with the Inspector General’s report and what he claimed was a fraud. However, the Ukraine scandal is not directly linked to the Russia investigation.
“This is a day that will live in infamy in the committee,” Gohmert said.
Rep. Gohmert says: "This is a day that will live in infamy in the committee," invoking FDR's description of Japan's attacks on Pearl Harbor.
Yesterday, Collins repeatedly accused Democrats of using the "Big Lie," invoking Hitler's propaganda technique.

The phrase ‘a day that will live in infamy’ was first made famous by FDR on the day following the Japanese surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii. That attack brought the U.S. into World War II and led to huge numbers of deaths on both sides.
Republican defenses of President Trump have become more and more extreme, while GOP members of the House have done little to defend Trump’s actions on substance.
