Maddow Back on Top: MSNBC Star Leads Cable News in Total and Demo Viewers on Wednesday
Rachel Maddow is currently having a moment.
After seeing her ratings slump following the release of the Mueller report, viewers have flocked back to the MSNBC star in the wake of the Ukraine scandal and the House Democrats’ pursuing an impeachment inquiry. On Wednesday night, The Rachel Maddow Show led cable news across the board, taking the top spot in total viewers and the key 25-54 demographic.
According to Nielsen, Maddow drew 3.285 million viewers overall and 638,000 in the key demo on Wednesday. The progressive MSNBC primetime host has now beaten her 9 PM rival, Fox News’ Hannity, in the key demo for more than a week straight.
Hannity, meanwhile, placed second overall in total viewers with 3.265 million and third in the demographic with 492,000. Hannity’s lead-in, Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight, took second in the demo with 529,000 and finished third in total audience (3.244 million).
During the 8-11 PM primetime slot, Fox News finished first in both the demo (491,000) and total viewership (3.100 million). MSNBC took second in both categories, drawing 2.590 million total viewers and 481,000 in the key demographic. CNN nabbed 1.174 million viewers overall and 326,000 in the 25-54 metric.
The top-rated program on CNN was Cuomo Prime Time, which drew 1.266 million total viewers and 334,000 in the demo.
