Shep Smith Sets Record Straight: ‘Real Issue’ Isn’t Joe Biden But Trump’s Ukraine Call

While many of the commentators and hosts at Fox News have quickly fallen into line and carried Team Trump’s narrative around the president’s attempts to get Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election by opening an investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith began his broadcast on Monday by setting the record straight.

“There is no known evidence that Joe Biden did anything wrong,” Smith said after playing a clip of Trump telling reporters to look into Biden’s actions in Ukraine.

“The whole thing involved corruption in Ukraine,” he continued. “A corrupt prosecutor who much of the world was pressuring Ukraine to remove. Earlier this year, a Ukrainian official said there was no evidence of any wrongdoing by Joe Biden or his son, Hunter.”

Smith, meanwhile, informed his viewers where they should be focusing their attention.

“The real issue here is the phone call,” Smith declared. “The claim that the president pressured a foreign leader to investigate a political rival and the failure to pass the whistleblower complaint to Congress. Now, among the Democrats, the pressure to impeach this president is building.”

He concluded by noting that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now “warning the White House that refusal to hand over the whistleblower complaint could be a grave new chapter of lawlessness by the White House and wrote that it could lead to a whole new stage of investigation.”
