Trump Announces United States Will No Longer ‘Deal With’ British Ambassador Who Called Him ‘Inept’

Nothing seems to quite get under Donald Trump’s skin like suggestions that he is anything less than the greatest human being alive.

So one can imagine how much it must have grated on him this weekend to hear that the British ambassador to the U.S., Sir Kim Darroch, had called the president “insecure,” “incompetent” and “inept” in a series of secret cables leaked to The Daily Mail.

Trump was asked about the comments during an improptou press gaggle as he was heading back to Washington, D.C. from his New Jersey golf club on Sunday. On Monday he took to Twitter to repeat with no evidence his charge that Darroch is not “well liked” in general:

You can be a murderous dictator who starves his people and executes dissidents with anti-aircraft guns, and Trump will love you so long as you send him gushing letters. But if you are the ambassador from one of America’s oldest allies, the one with which the United States claims to have a “special relationship,” the one that just threw you an elaborate state dinner a few weeks ago, and if you say anything negative about Trump in private, he will effectively expel you as if you were a Russian FSB agent caught recruiting spies.

CNN’s Kaitlain Collins reports that U.S. and British officials spent the weekend trying to do damage control that Trump has now apparently blown up:

Governing by tweet, as Trump does, will never seem normal.
