Hannity’s Trump Interview Tops Wednesday’s Cable News Ratings…But Doesn’t Beat Stephanopoulos

During his broadcast Monday night, Fox News’ Sean Hannity celebrated the disappointing ratings ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos Sunday night interview special with President Trump delivered, calling the 3.9 million total viewers it pulled in “humiliating” while noting his March phone interview with Trump drew more viewers.

“But to be on a network and get your ass kicked and I only did a phone interview—by little ol’ Sean Hannity,” the Fox News primetime star exclaimed at the time. “He needs to just pack it up.”

Hannity, meanwhile, hosted the president for another phoner on Wednesday night. And while the pro-Trump host’s show pulled in massive ratings for a cable news show, leading across the board in total viewership and the key 25-54 demographic, it wasn’t enough this time around to defeat Stephanopoulos.

According to Nielsen, Hannity drew 3.697 million total viewers and 572,000 in the key demographic. In comparison, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, which airs at 9 PM opposite Hannity, averaged 2.507 million viewers overall and 318,000 in the demo.

Overall in the 8-11 PM primetime slot, Fox News dominated the competition once again, drawing 504,000 demo viewers and a total viewership of 3.089 million. MSNBC trailed far behind in second with 1.977 million viewers overall and 245,000 in the key demo. CNN captured 864,000 total viewers and 214,000 in the 25-54 demo.

Finishing second to Hannity on Wednesday was Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight, which drew 2.956 million total viewers and 513,000 in the demographic.
