Trump: ‘Some People’ Say Poland Speech Was the ‘Best Speech Ever Made by a President in Europe’

“Ich ben ein Berliner.”

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”

“We’ve come to your nation to deliver a very important message: America loves Poland!”

That last one is from a speech Donald Trump gave in Poland almost two years ago, which on Wednesday he claimed unnamed people have called “the best speech ever made by a president in Europe.”

Somewhere, Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy are shaking their heads.

Trump made the comments during a brief press gaggle before an Oval Office meeting with Polish president Andrzej Duda. A reporter asked if the president is going to take up Duda’s invitation to visit Poland again, which caused Trump to wax nostalgic.

“I just had an incredible time, that speech was special from the standpoint of the people of Poland, and I know it was considered a very important speech. You people even gave me very high marks on that speech. I could say it, but I don’t want to say it, but some people said it was the best speech ever made by a president in Europe. I did not say that, I’m just quoting other people.”

There were audible snickers in the room from a press corps that knows the president is lying. But no one followed up by asking if he could name any of those people.
