Fox Host Goes Off On ‘Democrat’ Richard Burr: ‘Give Him a Copy of the Mueller Report for Dummies’

Fox News contributor David Webb, who hosts Reality Check on Fox Nation, told the hosts of Outnumbered on Friday that if Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) wants to keep “going after Trump,” he might as well just come out as a Democrat already.

Webb was referring to Burr issuing a subpoena to Donald Trump Jr. to come testify to the Senate Intelligence Committee. Trump Jr. is fighting the subpoena, and his allies in Congress and conservative media are flooding the airwaves and the Internet with outrage that Burr has not fallen in line with the Republican talking point that the Russia investigation is, as Mitch McConnell said this week, “case closed.”

Webb also suggested that Burr “falls more along the liberal line than the conservative line,” which would be news to pretty much anyone familiar with Burr’s career. He added, “Maybe they should give him a copy of the Mueller report for dummies.”

Perhaps Webb forgot that Attorney General William Barr issued the “Mueller report for dummies” in the form of the four-page summary that conservatives like himself are now using to declare Trump exonerated of collusion and obstruction of justice. It was the release of the full report that showed just how much the version for dummies got wrong.

In any case, Burr seems to want Trump Jr. to come back to testify because of some discrepancies between his 2017 testimony and what Mueller found about his activities during the election and put in the report.

It fell to Kennedy to be the voice of reason and explain this to Webb. “Maybe he contradicted himself, who knows?” she said. “If there really is a question there and they found some sort of statements of his that don’t jibe with reality, he has to answer for that.”

Webb countered that “Mitch McConnell can kill this,” which is not true. Committee chairmen are empowered to issue subpoenas as they conduct investigations. McConnell could probably find a way to intervene if he really wanted to, but so far he has decided to trust Burr.
