Maddow Gets Mueller Boost Tuesday Night, Leads Cable News in Total Viewers

Following the revelation that Special Counsel Robert Mueller wrote Attorney General William Barr to complain that the attorney general inaccurately represented the special counsel investigation’s findings in his initial summary memo, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show was the destination for cable news viewers looking to get their Russiagate fix.

According to Nielsen, the left-leaning 9 PM program drew 2.966 million total viewers to lead all of cable news and place fourth overall in cable television (placing behind NBA playoff basketball and History’s Curse of Oak Island.)

While leading cable news in total viewership, Maddow only placed third in the key 25-54 demographic, drawing 485,000 viewers. Fox News’ Hannity, which airs opposite Maddow at 9 PM, was second in the demo with 489,000 and Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight took the top spot, averaging a demo audience of 540,000. Hannity took second in total viewers (2.851 million) while Tucker finished in third place (2.780 million).

During the 8 PM to 11 PM primetime hours, Fox News led across the board with 2.617 million viewers overall and 448,000 in the demo. MSNBC nabbed 2.435 million total viewers and 378,000 in the demographic. CNN pulled in 253,000 demo viewers and a total audience of 906,000.

In the daytime 9 AM to 5 PM slot, Fox News took the top spot with 212,000 in the demo and 1.409 million total viewers. CNN attracted a demo audience of 145,000 and 628,000 viewers overall. MSNBC delivered 915,000 total viewers and 96,000 in the key demo.

The top-rated show on CNN was Cuomo Prime Time, which drew 955,000 viewers overall and 272,000 in the demo.
