Fox’s Brian Kilmeade: Fox News’ Ratings Show Voters Want To Move On From Trump Investigations

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade devoted a segment Wednesday morning to criticizing other news outlets for their coverage of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. Speaking to Washington Post contributor Gary Abernathy, Kilmeade did his best big up Fox News.

“Attorney General William Barr is set to release it all tomorrow. How will they react when they see it? Our next guest predicts they’ll still tried to hold on to their collusion theories. Washington Post columnist Gary Abernathy is here to explain. Gary, you wrote a column yesterday saying basically these other networks owe the President and their viewers an apology. Why?” Kilmeade began.

Abernathy didn’t exactly play along as planned.

“Well, I didn’t necessarily say they owe an apology but I just pointed out when you look at the major cable news networks, someone got it right and a couple others got it wrong. It happened to be that Fox News, which largely, you know, the opinion people and so on, claimed there was no collusion and that the real story was how did this thing start?”

Abernathy asserted that there was no collusion, and this was known before Mueller reported, which is an overstatement. However, his praise of Fox News was limited: “And, you know, so I was just giving credit where credit is due.”

Kilmeade wanted to press his advantage.

“You go on to say ‘even CBS and MSNBC viewers must recognise the straws being grasped to justify the conspiracy theory that has been largely debunked’. They continue to do it. I can just imagine what they will grasp in 400 pages if you study anybody’s life for 22 months. Do you expect them to change gears, refocus, or double down?”

Abernathy continued to criticize the main news networks, even going so far as to claim they had politicized William Barr unfairly. This is despite the fact that Barr weighed in to the Mueller investigation long before being appointed attorney general by Trump.

Kilmeade pressed on with his attacks on Fox News’ rivals and praise for his network.

“It looks like Nadler and Elijah Cummings [are] saying I want the President’s taxes. I want to be able to recall these witnesses. I want the millions of underlying documents. If you’re playing  – What audience are they playing to? Since the audience has already begun to leave their networks and viewers have begun to run for the hills.”

“The network gets higher ratings at 6 in the morning, right now, than CNN gets at 8 o’clock and 9 o’clock at night,” Kilmeade said, referring to Fox News  “Aren’t the voters telling everybody to move on?”
