MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace: Pete Buttigieg ‘Is Chicken Soup For My Soul’

MSNBC host and former George W. Bush communications director Nicolle Wallace went absolutely ga-ga for Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg on Monday, applauding the South Bend mayor for taking pointed shots at Vice-President Mike Pence’s stance on LGBTQ issues.

Speaking at the LGBTQ Victory Fund National Champagne Brunch on Sunday, Buttigieg — who came out as gay in 2015 — said that if “being gay was a choice, it was a choice that was made far, far above my pay grade.”

He added: “And that’s the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world would understand. That if you got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me — your quarrel, sir, is with my creator.”

Discussing Buttigieg’s remarks and his rise in the 2020 Democratic race, Wallace declared to the panel that “this guy is chicken soup for my soul.”

MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson, meanwhile, compared Buttigieg directly to former President Obama, saying that while he’s not sold on the mayor as a presidential candidate due to his centrism and overall political strategy, Buttigieg’s ability to speak to a “marginalized community with faith and conviction” made him think back to Obama.
