Latest Mueller News Boosts Maddow to Best Ratings Since Barr Memo’s Release

Looks like the reports of Rachel Maddow’s demise were just a tad premature.

The New York Times dropped a blockbuster early Wednesday evening, reporting that some of Robert Mueller’s investigators were upset with Attorney General William Barr with his portrayal of the special counsel’s report, telling associates their findings were more damaging to President Trump than Barr indicated. The Times’ reporting would shortly be matched by the Washington Post.

With this news hitting just before primetime, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show saw a significant boost in its ratings Wednesday night. According to Nielsen, Maddow finished second overall with 2.915 million total viewers and fourth with 475,000 in the key advertising 25-54 demographic.

This represented a boost of 18 percent in total viewership and 17 percent in the key demo from the day before. It was also, by far, the best ratings performance for Maddow since last week’s release of the Barr memo.

Fox News’ Hannity, which airs opposite Maddow at 9 PM, topped cable news with 3.154 million viewers overall while placing second in the demo (510,000). Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight took first place in the demo (525,000) and third in total viewers (2.887 million).

CNN, meanwhile, enjoyed its first million-plus hour since the drop of the Barr letter as Cuomo Prime Time drew 1.078 million total viewers and 289,000 in the demo, leading the network in both categories.
