MSNBC’s Katy Tur Roasts Alex Jones for Childish ‘Psychosis’ Defense: ‘You Are a Grown Man!’

Reacting to far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ three-hour deposition in a defamation lawsuit brought by Sandy Hook parents after Jones repeatedly claimed the 2012 Newtown shooting was staged and part of a “false flag” operation, MSNBC host Katy Tur tire into Jones’ excuse that he was suffering from a “form of psychosis” that caused him to believe certain events were faked.

“And I, myself, have almost had like a form of psychosis back in the past where I basically thought everything was staged, even though I’ve now learned a lot of times things aren’t staged,” Jones said in the deposition that was posted online last month. “So I think as a pundit, someone giving an opinion, that, you know, my opinions have been wrong, but they were never wrong consciously to hurt people.”

Recapping the case and Jones’ recent remarks, Tur noted Wednesday that Jones claimed his psychosis caused him to be “like a child whose parents lie to them over and over again — pretty soon they don’t know what reality is.”

“You are not a child, sir,” the MSNBC host exclaimed. “You are a grown man! I suppose that psychosis led you to believe that the government was behind the Oklahoma City bombing and 9/11 or that Hillary Clinton was running a child sex ring.”

She continued: “For years Alex Jones has been spreading this kind of misinformation. He is literally the poster boy for fake news. Last year, just about every major social media platform finally took a stand against it and him. Facebook, YouTube and Twitter removed Alex Jones and InfoWars.”

Tur went on to point out that even though Jones has essentially been de-platformed, it hasn’t stopped him from spreading malicious lies on his program. Just a week ago, he began peddling conspiracy theories that Sandy Hook father Jeremy Richman, who committed suicide last month, was actually murdered to make Jones look bad and prevent him from receiving a “fair trial.”

“So did psychosis make him say that, too?” Tur concluded.
