Jeff Flake: Trump Supporters Threatened My Family

Supporters of President Donald Trump threatened former Senator Jeff Flake and his family, the Arizona Republican says. In an interview with the UK’s Guardian newspaper, Flake explained how he’d received several threats of violence from apparent Trump supporters.

In the most recent case, a man was charged with leaving a threatening voicemail for Flake, saying “I am tired of him interrupting our president, and I am coming down there to take him and his family out.” The message was left after Flake delayed the confirmation vote for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“That’s only one of several threats,” Flake told the newspaper. Flake was seen as a sometime opponent of President Trump and was severely criticized by Trump’s supporters for his actions during Kavanaugh’s confirmation. He was also criticized by Democrats for voting for Kavanaugh.

A man carrying a rifle visited three Mormon churches in Arizona looking for Flake, who is Mormon. Flake told the story during the interview. It appears to have slipped under the news radar, but the unidentified man was apparently a Trump supporter.

“It was a man living out of his car. He told someone he had just attended a Trump rally,” Flake said. “He showed up at another event two weeks ago”

Flake said that there have been several other threats that ‘haven’t been tracked down yet.’

“Threats where they list my kids and their addresses, links to beheading videos,” he said.
