Maddow Suffers More Ratings Woes Tuesday, Finishes 10th In Key Demographic

In the wake of Sunday’s release of Attorney General William Barr’s summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report finding the Trump campaign did not conspire with Russia in its 2016 election interference, CNN and MSNBC experienced a noticeable drop in ratings across the board on Monday.

Unfortunately for the two networks, their viewership continued to plummet on Tuesday while former ratings champ, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show found itself barely in the top ten among cable news shows.

According to Nielsen, Fox News completely dominated during the 8 PM to 11 PM primetime hours, drawing 3.341 million total viewers and 585,000 in the key 25-54 advertising demographic. MSNBC finished far behind in second place, averaging 1.824 million viewers overall and 271,000 in the demo. CNN captured a minuscule 220,000 demo viewers and a total audience of 798,000.

In the 9 AM to 5 PM daytime slot, Fox News outdrew its two competitors combined, nabbing 1.772 million total viewers and 281,000 in the key demo. MSNBC managed to pull in 857,000 viewers overall and 131,000 in the demographic. CNN drew 596,000 total viewers and a demo audience of 146,000.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight led cable news in the key demo with 656,000 while placing second overall in total viewership (3.554 million). Fox’s Hannity, meanwhile, led in total viewers (3.571 million) and took second place in the key demographic (589,000).

Maddow finished seventh overall with 2.301 million total viewers and all the way down to tenth in the key demo (355,000). In fact, nine separate hours of Fox News programming beat Maddow in the demo, including two hours of early morning show Fox & Friends. The 9 PM primetime show, which airs opposite Hannity, has shed 21 percent of its total audience and 36 percent in the key demo since Friday.

CNN had no program that topped 900,000 total viewers or 300,000 in the key demo. The network’s top-rated show was Cuomo Prime Time, which drew a meager 841,000 viewers overall. The 10 PM broadcast of CNN Tonight led in the demo with 249,000.
