Marsha Blackburn: Green New Deal Means No More Steak Or Hamburgers

Senator Marsha Blackburn told the Fox News Business Network that the proposed Green New Deal would make it impossible to go for a steak or hamburgers Tuesday morning. Speaking to Maria Bartiromo, the freshman senator from Tennessee claimed the plan would destroy agricultural business.

Baritoromo began the segment by criticizing Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her mocking response to President Donald Trump. Trump attacked the Green New Deal at a rally Sunday night. Then Blackburn had the chance to express her views on the plan, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and tackle climate change.

“Well, they’ve tried different provisions of this Green New Deal through the years. You remember back in 2007, they tried a part of this,” Blackburn said. “Look, if they had their way, FedEx would be out of business. So all of these packages that people are getting from online shopping, that delivery would come to an end.”

“You would see cattle farming, the biggest part of our Ag sector in Tennessee, that would come to an end. You couldn’t go grab a steak or a hamburger because they would end that cattle farming and I don’t know about you, but Pals or Bell’s in Tennessee, that make great hamburgers, I like to pick one of those up.”

Blackburn is the latest Republican to suggest cattle will be banned. Trump made the same claim at a rally in El Paso, and the idea is fast becoming a new talking point.

“You would see an end to all of the fossil fuels,” she said. “You think about no service stations, all of those jobs would go away, refining jobs would go away. The logistics industry and all of those jobs. All of that would go away. So I don’t know how they plan to pay for this.”

“And there is a true disconnect between saying here is the utopia that we would like to have and you can get around on the bicycle or on your feet. Maybe they think they’re going to be the Pedocrats and not the Democrats,” Blackburn said, presumably referring to pedestrians.

Blackburn invented the term ‘Pedocrat’ to describe Democrats who walk instead of using cars. This unfortunate-sounding word is unlikely to catch on.
