Morning Joe Points And Laughs At Fox News For Predicting Flynn Judge Would ‘Throw Out’ Guilty Plea

This morning, the Morning Joe crew had a grand old time mocking and ridiculing the Sean Hannity Expanded Universe for its predictions that Judge Emmet Sullivan would not only chastise federal prosecutors and the FBI for its treatment of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn at this week’s sentencing hearing, but that he would also likely “throw out” Flynn’s guilty plea because he’d be so “pissed off” over government misconduct.

Following Flynn’s lawyers releasing a sentencing memo ahead of Monday’s hearing that suggested FBI agents entrapped Flynn into lying to them about contacts with Russian officials, a number of Fox News hosts and commentators asserted with near certainty that Sullivan would side with Flynn at the hearing. Of course, that is NOT what happened: the judge instead shredded Flynn in the courtroom, got him to admit that he was aware that lying to the FBI was a crime, and told him that he had arguably sold his country out. In the end, the sentencing was delayed so Flynn could continue to cooperate with the special counsel and Sullivan indicated he may still give Flynn jail time, even with the prosecution asking for leniency.

The show would air a montage clip of Fox personalities such as Sean Hannity, Jeanine Pirro, Sara Carter, Gregg Jarrett and Mollie Hemmingway all smugly prognosticating that Sullivan would angrily push back against what he saw as prosecutorial overreach and bias regarding Flynn.

“When you push all your chips to the middle of the table, you better be damned sure you have a good hand,” co-host Willie Geist said with a big smile while colleague Mika Brzezinski declared that the clip was “rough.”

“That one came up snake eyes,” Joe Scarborough observed. “You know, it’s one thing if you’re Bobby knight and you’re working the roughs all day and maybe you throw a chair across the gymnasium.”

He continued, “You don’t do this to federal judges. I mean, you know, I learned as a lawyer, when a federal judge walked by, I like kept my head down and kept walking. I did that to AP reporters in Congress. But some people you just don’t poke and prod.”

JoeScar went on to state that he felt it was all the chatter from “Trump apologists” and the president that ended up getting picked up by Flynn’s lawyers in their sentencing memo that really “got this judge a little worked up.” Attorney Joyce Vance agreed, saying that Sullivan likely didn’t appreciate being used as a “political football.”
