Trump Claims Migrant Caravan Couldn’t Get Through ‘Our Newly Built Walls’

President Donald Trump has claimed that the migrant caravan that was heading toward the United States couldn’t get in because of border walls and other border security measures. This is despite the fact that no border wall has been built and Trump is still demanding money for one.

“Despite the large Caravans that WERE forming and heading to our Country, people have not been able to get through our newly built Walls, makeshift Walls & Fences, or Border Patrol Officers & Military,” Trump tweeted. There is no evidence of migrants attempting to get through border walls.

“They are now staying in Mexico or going back to their original countries … Ice, Border Patrol and our Military have done a FANTASTIC job of securing our Southern Border. A Great Wall would be, however, a far easier & less expensive solution. We have already built large new sections & fully renovated others, making them like new,” Trump said.

The migrant caravan was a largely exaggerated issues during the 2018 midterm elections. Though much hyped by Republican candidates and conservative media, there was never any real threat from the so-called caravan. Democrats managed to make major gains in the midterms despite fear mongering about migrants.

“The Democrats …. however, for strictly political reasons and because they have been pulled so far left, do NOT want Border Security. They want Open Borders for anyone to come in. This brings large scale crime and disease,” the President said this morning. There is no evidence that migrants bring diseases and the Democrats do not support open borders.

Trump has chosen an odd time to attack the Democrats. He is meeting with Senator Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi this morning in the hopes of preventing a government shutdown. Trump will likely demand funding for his border wall, which Democrats are reluctant to give him.

Despite demanding a ‘great wall’, Trump also said “Our Southern Border is now Secure and will remain that way.” If the border is secure, there should be no reason for a wall or the increased funding that Trump is demanding from Congress.
