Rick Scott Adviser Won’t Refute Trump’s Claim That People Voted Multiple Times: ‘I Wasn’t In Florida On Election Day’

In an interview with right-wing outlet The Daily Caller yesterday, President Donald Trump baselessly claimed that Democrats win elections because people “go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again.” Calling for tougher voter ID laws, Trump also hilariously asserted that if “you buy a box of cereal — you have a voter ID.”

Showing that many conservatives can’t ever bring themselves to say the president was wrong when he spouts out evidence-free conspiracy theories or straight-up lies, Republican operative and author Brad Todd deflected and pivoted when confronted with Trump’s claims on CNN today. Speaking to anchor Kate Bolduan, the Rick Scott adviser — who was there to talk about the Florida recount — said he couldn’t refute POTUS because he wasn’t down in Florida last week.

“Have you seen evidence of people sometimes they go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again?” Bolduan asked. “That’s what the president is suggesting happened on Election Day.”

“Well, I wasn’t in Florida on Election Day,” the Great Revolt co-author replied. “But I can tell you that the Broward County elections office has consistently not followed the elections code in Florida. And I think that’s why a lot of people are alarmed. In Palm Beach right now, the supervisor of elections seems to have given up.”

Following Todd’s pivot, the CNN host pressed again, noting that he’s been in politics for a long time and whether he really thinks “people are returning to their cars and by putting on a hat and a different shirt and coming in, they’re able to vote twice.”

“Kate, I will tell you fraud hides in the shadows of noncompliance,” he responded, not answering the question. “We have election laws to prevent fraud. It’s essential that the people who run our elections abide by those laws to the letter.”

“Right. And fraud is a bad thing and should be found out, but on this, you have not seen this?” Bolduan pushed back. “You have not heard about this? You don’t think is possible or do you?”

Todd again said that he wasn’t in Florida on Election Day before criticizing Palm Beach and Broward for the way they have conducted vote counting and the recount, causing Bolduan to move on to discussing the embattled Broward County election supervisor Brenda Snipes.
