MSNBC Goes Full Both Sides, Compares Mild Dem Campaign Ads To Ugly GOP Attacks

MSNBC hosts and commentators regularly get criticized for engaging in both sides-ism (coughChuckToddcough), but even by their normal standards, Thursday’s segment on “ugly” campaign ads stands out.

With Democratic Texas Senate candidate deciding to finally go negative against Ted Cruz and releasing spots that hit Ted Cruz on the senator’s immigration, education, and health care records, host Hallie Jackson introduced a segment on the ugliness and negativity in political races as the midterms close in.

After playing one of O’Rourke’s new ads — which focuses on Cruz’s policy positions and statements — Jackson noted that viewers are “probably being inundated with ads like that: before adding that “some of this stuff is getting ugly.”

She then played a montage of other recent ads that featured Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner threatening to “stomp” Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s face with “golf spikes,” Democratic congressional nominee Ammar Campa-Najjar being painted as a radical Islamist terrorist, and Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez facing accusations of sleeping with underage prostitutes.

The montage then ends with an anti-Cruz PAC’s spot poking fun at the Texas lawmaker for saying he really likes White Castle burgers, noting that the burger chain is nowhere near Texas.

“Oh man,” Jackson exclaimed to her panel. “We’re in it!”

So, just to recap: accusing your opponents of terrorism and child sex trafficking while threatening to stomp holes in them is on par with calling out one’s opponent over his policy positions and joking about someone’s love of fast food.

Got it.
