CNN’s Phil Mudd: Trump ‘Has To Get Off His Fat Ass’ And Ask Some ‘Basic’ Questions On Khashoggi

High-strung former CIA officer and current CNN analyst Phil Mudd is known for his red-faced rants during television panel discussions. So when he popped up Tuesday night on CNN Tonight to discuss the latest developments in the disappearance and likely murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, viewers were likely ready for some fireworks.

He did not disappoint.

Anchor Don Lemon began the segment by asking Mudd why the president accepts the Saudis’ denials on Khashoggi despite various reports that the Washington Post columnist was murdered and dismembered in a Saudi consulate, likely at the behest of the Saudi crown prince.

After saying President Donald Trump likes to portray himself as someone who can take on the world’s “heavy hitters,” Mudd rattled off a series of questions that the president should be asking to get to the bottom of the situation.

“The president has to get off his fat ass and ask a couple basic investigative questions about what do we know and whether that information suggests that the Saudis were culpable or not,” Mudd exclaimed, causing panelist Frank Bruni’s eyes to bug out. “This is not that hard, Don! It’s not that hard.”

Lemon reacted, “Wow! Harsh words there, Phil.”

“I mean, it’s — if you ask an FBI investigator, you could be a 24-year-old FBI investigator and figure this out,” the CNN contributor replied back.
