Hillary Clinton: ‘You Cannot Be Civil With A Political Party That Wants To Destroy What You Stand For’

You just know that conservative media and Trumpwrold are going to jump all over these comments.

Speaking to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton dismissed the notion that civility could be had between Democrats and Republicans if Democrats remain the minority party.

“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” the former First Lady said.

Clinton went on to take aim at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for going after anti-Kavanaugh protesters and Christine Blasey Ford during newly-minted Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation process.

“That’s why I believe if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again,” Clinton stated. “But until then the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize, and respect is strength. And you heard how the Republican members lead by Mitch McConnell, the president really demeaned the confirmation process, insulted and attacked not only Dr. Ford but women who were speaking out.”

Clinton listed off a number of past instances in which she felt the Republican Party showed its ruthlessness, namely the swiftboating of John Kerry, “Republican operatives shutting down the voting in Florida in 2000,” spreading race-bating rumors about John McCain during the 2000 GOP primary, and the long history of right-wing attacks against her.

“So, when you’re dealing with an ideological party that is driven by the lust for power, that is funded by corporate interest who want a government that does it’s bidding, you can be civil, but you can’t overcome what they intend to do unless you win elections,” she concluded.
