WATCH: Political Ad Brutally Makes Fun Of Idea That Ted Cruz Is ‘Tough As Texas’

A new political ad by an anti-Ted Cruz group absolutely shreds the Texas Republican senator’s “Tough As Texas” re-election slogan by pointing out how Cruz has kissed up to President Donald Trump after Trump personally attacked him and his family during the 2016 GOP presidential primary.

The spot, paid for by the Fire Ted Cruz, was filmed by Austin filmmaker Richard Linklater and features actor Sonny Carl Davis playing his character from Linklater’s 20112 film Bernie.

“I mean, come on,” Davis says in the ad regarding Cruz’s campaign slogan. “If somebody called my wife a dog, and said my daddy was in on the Kennedy assassination, I wouldn’t be kissing their ass.”

Davis adds, “You stick a finger in their chest and give ’em a few choice words. Or you drag their ass out by the woodshed and kick their ass. Come on. Ted.”

Obviously, the references here are to Trump insulting Heidi Cruz’s appearance while threatening to “spill the beans” on her and floating a conspiracy theory that Cruz’s father was involved in John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the PAC has so far raised around $500,000 and will air this ad on social media. The group’s founder, Marc Stanley, told the News that he felt it was necessary to “punch back at Cruz” because Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke has vowed to run a positive campaign and Cruz has been running negative attack ads against O’Rourke.
