Maddow Finishes Eighth In Demo On Thursday, Loses To Fox’s Dana Perino In Total Viewers

It wasn’t that long ago when MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show was celebrating its best week ever and enjoying a run as the top-rated cable news show. Fast forward to today, and the progressive stalwart is looking at an eighth-place finish in the key 25-54 demographic as viewers continue to flock to Fox News during the tense Brett Kavanaugh confirmation.

According to Nielsen, Fox News dominated during the 8 PM to 11 PM primetime hours with 779,000 demo viewers and 4.031 million viewers overall. MSNBC finished a distant second with 2.217 million total viewers and 411,000 in the demo. CNN averaged 387,000 in the key demo and a total audience of 1.273 million.

In total day, Fox attracted 2.332 million total viewers and 479,000 in the demographic. MSNBC pulled in a total audience of 1.210 million and 232,000 in the key demo. CNN captured 839,000 viewers overall and 238,000 in the demo.

As you can see, in both total day and primetime, Fox News attracted more total viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined.

Fox News boasted the top seven programs in both total viewership and the key demo on Thursday. Tucker Carlson Tonight placed first in the demo (788,000) and third overall in total viewers (3.939 million). Hannity was the most-watched show of the day with 4.222 million viewers overall, placing second in the demo with 783,000.

Maddow finished eighth in both total viewership (2.763 million) and the key demo (532,000), coming behind Fox’s 2 PM program The Briefing with Dana Perino in total viewers (2.808 million) and FNC’s 11 PM show Fox News @ Night in the demographic (541,000).

CNN’s top-rated program of the day was Anderson Cooper 360, which drew 1.303 million total viewers. Cuomo Prime Time led the network in the demo with 394,000.
