Trump Dismisses ABC’s Cecilia Vega During Presser: ‘I Know You’re Not Thinking, You Never Do’

During today’s White House press conference following an announcement of an updated trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, President Donald Trump attempted to bat away questions about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. This included dismissing a widely respected ABC News reporter by straight-up telling her she was unintelligent.

With numerous outlets reporting that the White House is severely limiting the scope of the FBI investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh, ABC’s Cecilia Vega looked to ask the president about the situation. However, immediately after the president called on her, he tried to rattle her by lobbing his trademark schoolyard insults her direction.

“She’s shocked that I picked her — in a state of shock,” Trump said as he pointed at Vega, all while staffers and aides laughed.

Standing up, Vega began by sounding as if she said she wasn’t “thinking” — instead she told Trump “thank you” — causing the president to cut her off and go on the attack.

“That’s OK,” Trump sneered. “I know you’re not thinking. You never do.”

The White House correspondent, obviously taken aback, asked: “I’m sorry?”

“No, go ahead — go ahead,” Trump responded, acting as if he didn’t just say what he said.

Anyway, Vega tried to ask about the Kavanaugh FBI investigation, causing the president to complain that her question had nothing to do with trade.

UPDATE: This post has been updated to show that Vega said “I’m not, thank you, Mr. President” in response to Trump saying she was in a “state of shock” over being called on to ask a question.
