Maddow Continues Winning Streak, Tops Cable News In Total Viewers And Demo Wednesday

For the third straight day this week and fourth weekday in a row, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show was the most-watched program in cable news as it led across the board. Fox News led in both the demo and total audience for the entire day but split with MSNBC in primetime, with the former Lean Forward network leading the 8 PM to 11 PM time slot in the key 25-54 demographic.

According to Nielsen, MSNBC drew 531,000 demo viewers and a total viewership of 2.749 million during primetime on Wednesday. Fox News averaged 2.907 million total viewers and 529,000 in the demo. CNN finished just behind MSNBC and Fox in the demo (518,000) while pulling in 1.550 million viewers overall.

In total day, Fox News attracted 1.592 million total viewers and 290,000 in the key demo. CNN captured 262,000 demographic viewers and a total audience of 879,000. MSNBC nabbed 1.356 million viewers overall and 250,000 in the demo.

Maddow led all of cable in total viewership (3.367 million) and cable news in the 25-54 demographic (672,000). Fox’s Hannity, which faces off with Maddow at 9 PM, placed second in the demo (590,000) and total audience (3.244 million).

Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight finished third in total viewership (2.797 million) and fourth in the demo (521,000). MSNBC’s The Last Word took fourth place in total audience (2.692 million) and sixth in the demographic (490,000).

With CNN devoting much of its primetime coverage to Hurricane Florence, its primetime programming drew good demo numbers, with Cuomo Prime Time finishing third overall in the demographic (577,000) and Anderson Cooper 360 placing fifth (495,000).

Cuomo Prime Time was the most-watched show on the network Wednesday with 1.723 million viewers overall.
