Trump Was Forced To Unblock Critics On Twitter – Now Some Of Them Are Blocking Him

President Donald Trump has been forced to unblock people on Twitter following a court case in May. Trump routinely blocked users who mocked or criticized him, including celebrities like horror writer Stephen King and comedian Rosie O’Donnell.

Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled that Trump blocking Twitter users was unconstitutional. The court ruled that Twitter was a public forum and since it was used in the course of appointing government officers and conducting foreign policy, people had a right to see Trump’s tweets.

The court order has apparently taken partial effect. Several Twitter users have been unblocked. Some have started tweeting at the President, while others have decided to block him. As private citizens, these Twitter users are able to block Trump without legal repercussions but since Trump’s tweets are in the public interest, he cannot respond in kind.

It appears that between 7 and 41 accounts have been unblocked. These were the accounts covered by the successful lawsuit and others highlighted by the Knight First Amendment Institute, which took the case.

However, Rosie O’Donnell is stilled blocked and there is no indication whether she will be unblocked anytime soon.

President Trump uses Twitter as his primary means of communication and blocking citizens, therefore, may limit their ability to assess his performance.
