Advisers Tell Trump: Stop Tweeting About Russia

President Donald Trump’s advisers have asked him not to tweet about the Trump Tower meeting with Russians that took place during the 2016 presidential election. According to CNN’s Dana Bash, discussions have taken place about the President’s recent tweets.

Trump’s advisers believe ‘his tweeting only gives oxygen to the topic’.

Trump has sent several recent tweets about the ongoing investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, including one where he acknowledged that the Trump Tower meeting was about getting dirt on Hillary Clinton. He had previously claimed it was about Russian adoptions.

Recent news reports suggest that Trump is worried about his son, Donald Trump Jr., who apparently set up and attended the meeting. Though Trump does not believe Don Jr. did anything wrong, he is concerned that his eldest son could be caught up in Mueller’s probe. Trump denied that he was worried about Don Jr.

Last week, Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani attempted to preempt a news story by denying that a ‘pre-meeting’ had taken place. This meeting would have been used to plan the Russia meeting. No news story appeared about any such meeting and it is possible Giuliani was just trying to muddy the waters.

It is unlikely President Trump will stop using Twitter to express his opinion. The social media site is his primary means of communication with the public and he uses it to attack everyone from Robert Mueller to LeBron James. His advisers may have a difficult time changing his online behavior.
