MSNBC’s Katy Tur On Rudy Giuliani: He ‘Might Have A Hard Time Keeping Things Straight’

Following Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s disastrous cable news appearances Monday morning that led to a nutty ‘clarification’ call into Fox News that only left the hosts more baffled than before, MSNBC host Katy Tur wondered whether the former New York City mayor was able to keep track of everything he says to the media.

Discussing Giuliani’s goalpost-moving comments about collusion not being a crime and his assertion that he was just trying to get ahead of the story by disclosing a second Trump Tower meeting that he also claims doesn’t exist, Tur asked MSNBC legal analyst Danny Cevallos what Giuliani’s strategy was.

“He may be adhering to the old trial strategy that if there’s damaging information about your client, get it out so that the cross-examination doesn’t detonate later in the trial,” he responded. “But beyond that, it’s not a terrific strategy if you create an issue out of whole cloth that simply wasn’t there before. So it’s curious that Rudy Giuliani would take this approach.”

Before turning to the Associated Press’ Jonathan Lemire, Tur said that this episode reminded her a bit of Giuliani shockingly announcing to Fox’s Sean Hannity that President Trump reimbursed his then-attorney Michael Cohen for the hush payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels and his subsequent walk-backs.

“Seems like there’s so much going on that Rudy Giuliani might have a hard time keeping things straight,” she noted. “Is that unfair?

“Giuliani has proven himself to be a pretty unreliable narrator on a lot of events that transpired around Donald Trump both before and after taking office,” Lemire stated. “We saw Sean Hannity’s surprise — Sean Hannity is someone who talks to the president quite frequently that moment when Giuliani said that about the Stormy Daniels payment. And then started backpedaling over the subsequent days.”

He went on to note that we are seeing a condensed version of that now with Giuliani and that the Trump attorney either got something wrong, read it wrong, or that there really is something significant that is about to drop and Giuliani is unsuccessfully trying to get ahead of it.

“Or it speaks to how effective a spokesperson Rudy Giuliani is being for the president,” Lemire concluded.
