Does Tammy Bruce Think Right-Wing Site ‘The Federalist’ And The Federalist Society Are The Same Thing?

Over the past few days, a lot of news discussion and coverage has revolved around conservative legal organization The Federalist Society and its role in compiling a list of Constitution originalist jurists that President Trump used to select his Supreme Court nominees. Leonard Leo, executive vice president of the group, served as Trump’s adviser on judicial nominations and was present when the president announced Brett Kavanaugh as his latest pick.

Filling in for Tucker Carlson Tuesday night, Fox News contributor and veteran conservative radio host Tammy Bruce apparently wanted to get in on this action. And in doing so, she revealed that she seemingly believes that five-year-old right-wing opinion site The Federalist is one and the same as the highly influential Federalist Society.

Introducing Federalist writer John Daniel Davidson during a segment on Kavanaugh, Bruce pivoted right away to conflating Ben Domenech’s conservative outrage factory with the group that assembled the list that led to the nominations of Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch.

“Being at the Federalist — and I guess you’re supposed to be evil — I’m wondering with that list that you helped create for the president with judicial nominees,” Bruce said. “If like Godzilla and Mothra are on that list. I mean the hysteria we’re seeing over this is pretty outstanding.”

The Fox News contributor — who last year called a young boy with autism a snowflake in need of a safe space for asking Mike Pence for an apology — wasn’t done.

“Knowing the quality of all the judges you put on that list for the president — including Judge Gorsuch that you’ve consulted and now Judge Kavanaugh,” Bruce confidently declared. “What is your take on the nature of the reaction we’ve seen to it?”

At that point, one would have thought that Davidson would immediately let Bruce know that he was merely a writer of pieces like ‘The Repeal Of Ireland’s Abortion Ban Marks A New Paganism’ rather than a powerful political player. But that’s not what happened.

“Well, I think there’s a canned quality to the outrage that we saw Monday night,” he said, totally brushing off Bruce’s flub. Perhaps he was just flattered to be held in such high regard by longtime radio host and political activist.
