Fox’s Shep Smith Unimpressed With Trump Summit: ‘Kim Jong Un Got It All For Doing Actually Nothing’

Once again, Shepard Smith invaded the Trumpist safe space known as Fox News with a reasonable and critical take on the president’s actions.

In this instance, the Fox News anchor provided a breakdown of the historic summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un that flies in the face of what the majority of Fox’s opinion hosts and commentators have been saying about the meeting. With the president patting himself on the back over the vague declaration signed by the two leaders, Smith explained to his viewers Tuesday that Kim came out the clear winner.

“America demanded complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization,” Smith said at the top of his broadcast. “CVID — complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization. There’s no guarantee of that, not even words to that effect.”

Stating that it will be years before we even know if we are on that road of denuclearization or just “left in the potholes of paths past,” the Fox anchor then pointed out that the Hermit Kingdom leader got what he’s been seeking for a while.

“But Kim Jong Un, he wanted the photos,” Smith declared. “The seat at the table. He wanted the legitimacy that came with the event. The handshake with America’s president.”

He continued, “He wanted those military exercises with the Americans and the South Koreans that happened every year to stop. Kim Jong Un got it all for actually doing nothing. Plus, he got a promise. Lacking specifics, granted, of security for the North Korean regime.”

Smith wasn’t done going off on the summit and the agreement reached between the two leaders. Highlighting the human rights abuses the rogue regime inflicts on its own people, the Fox News host let his audience know that Trump said that North Koreans “love their leader” while claiming that he trusts Kim. He ended his monologue with the following flourish:

“What will the president’s special bond with Kim Jong Un mean for the US and its allies? No specifics. President Trump and Kim signed a joint statement after almost five hours of talks. In the document, the North Korean leader ‘reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.’ No specifics of how to do it. No timeline on getting it done. No verification, no inspection. just generalities. President Trump called the North Korean dictator very talented and praised him. The United Nations has called him one of the most brutal and repressive regimes in modern history.”
