MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell Tops Demo In Time Slot On Thursday Evening

MSNBC was able to pull of a decent number of cable news ratings victories on Thursday, with primetime programs The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell and The Rachel Maddow Show leading their respective hours in the key 25-54 demographic.

According to Nielsen, O’Donnell’s 10 PM show pulled in 494,000 demo viewers and finished second in the hour in total viewership (2.338 million). Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle led the time slot in total viewers (2.584 million) while averaging 484,000 in the demographic.

In the 9 PM hour, Maddow attracted 631,000 demo viewers to not only lead the hour but the entire day. Maddow placed second overall in total viewership (3.025 million), trailing only her head-to-head competitor, Fox News’ Hannity (3.208 million). Hannity was runner-up for the day in the key demo with 566,000 viewers.

Fox News led the 8 PM to 11 PM primetime slot in both overall audience (2.825 million) and the demo (514,000). MSNBC grabbed the silver in the key demographic (503,000) and total viewers (2.406 million). CNN nabbed 1.105 million total viewers and a demo audience of 341,000.

MSNBC also got a rare early afternoon victory in total viewership when MSNBC Live with Ali Velshi grabbed 1.144 million viewwrs in the 3 PM hour to top Fox’s Shepard Smith Reports (1.074 million) and CNN Newsroom (850,000).
