John Oliver: Donald Trump’s Been Losing Debates To Women For 20 Years

John Oliver entered the debate about the presidential debate last night. On Last Week Tonight Oliver mocked Donald Trump for pushing unscientific online polls showing he won last week’s debate and explored Trump’s history with a former Miss Universe, Alicia Machado.

“As I’m sure you know by now, Donald Trump’s performance consisted mainly of an incoherent jumble of sniffles and nonsense like a racist toddler coming out of dental surgery,” Oliver said. He showed a now infamous clip of Trump saying he had a better temperament than Hillary Clinton. “For the record, you can’t incoherently rant about having the best temperament. That is a claim that disproves itself. It’s like getting a forehead tattoo that says, ‘I have excellent judgement.'”

Oliver pointed out that online polls were not conducted scientifically, like those conducted by polling companies. Trump and his surrogates have pointed to these flash polls repeatedly, despite how easy they are to manipulate. Oliver cited an internal memo from Fox News explaining how these online polls didn’t meet Fox’s editorial standards, “Which is shocking,” Oliver said. “Because I was pretty sure Fox News’ only editorial standards were ‘All ladies must be 8’s or above,’ and ‘Try not to say the N-word.'”

Oliver then moved on to Trump’s attacks on Alicia Machado and was not impressed. “Do me a favor,” Oliver said to the audience. “Look up into the sky right now. Higher, no, higher still. Do you see that, way up there, way up above the clouds? That’s rock bottom. And we are currently way down here.”

To finish the segment, Oliver showed a clip from 1996 of Trump and Machado arguing about Machado’s weight while she was Miss Universe. Machado didn’t take Trump’s criticism lying down. “Donald Trump really should have been prepared for Monday night because it seems he’s been losing televised debates to women for 20 years now,” Oliver said.
