¯\_(ツ)_/¯: Trump Shrugs Off His Racial Discrimination, Arguably Proving He’s Racist

Donald Trump revealed his subtle racism in the presidential debate last night: “It’s just one of those things” is a comically terrible response to the question of why he settled a lawsuit from the Department of Justice alleging that his company committed gross racial discrimination against African-Americans.

First of all, it’s odd that he is bragging about settling the lawsuit, even with the caveat that he settled with no admission of guilt (has Trump ever in his life admitted guilt for anything?).

And if Trump actually was innocent, wouldn’t he probably have tried a little harder to actually win the case outright in order to prove to the jury made up of his peers that he was not, in fact, a racist bigot?

Let’s lay this out objectively: Trump is conspicuously thin-skinned and impulsively vengeful; he has a vast team of lawyers and a history of litigiousness; yet he decided to settle with the Department of Justice and pay a fine even though he allegedly could have proven his innocence. It just doesn’t add up after observing Trump’s personality every day for the last year and a half.

And what does Trump mean by “It’s just one of those things,” anyway? Could the casual assurance with which he said it suggest a definitive racial bias? The quote certainly suggests that getting sued for racism is an expected and unsurprising event for a real estate businessman.

Maybe it’s why his polling in the African-American community has flirted with zero percent in some states.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
