Trumper’s Remorse? Scarborough Demands GOP Dump Trump Over 2nd Amendment Comments

Sorry, Joe, but you helped build that.

In his column for the Washington Post and during Wednesday’s broadcast of Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough railed against Republican nominee Donald Trump over his Second Amendment comments and said the GOP needed to find a way to drop Trump from the ticket. The MSNBC host stated that a “bloody line has been crossed” as this is the worst thing Trump has done or said yet.

Joe’s WaPo piece, published late Tuesday night, saw the ex-Republican Congressman detail the steps his party needed to take to distance themselves from the former reality TV star after he suggested some “Second Amendment people” should take out Hillary Clinton if she wins.

We are in uncharted waters but that does not mean that the way forward is not clear. It is.

  1. The Secret Service should interview Donald Trump and ask him to explain his threatening comments.
  2. Paul Ryan and every Republican leader should denounce in the strongest terms their GOP nominee suggesting conservatives could find the Supreme Court more favorable to their desires if his political rival was assassinated.
  3. Paul Ryan and every Republican leader should revoke their endorsement of Donald Trump. At this point, what else could Trump do that would be worse than implying the positive impact of a political assassination?
  4. The Republican Party needs to start examining quickly their options for removing the Republican nominee.

A bloody line has been crossed that cannot be ignored. At long last, Donald Trump has left the Republican Party few options but to act decisively and get this political train wreck off the tracks before something terrible happens.

Throughout Wednesday’s program, Joe got on his self-righteous soapbox and denounced Trump over and over. He stated that Trump finally crossed the line into fascism on Tuesday by calling for violence against his political opponents. He repeated his demands that Paul Ryan rescind his endorsement of Trump and the party find a way to wrest the nomination away from him. (This even led to a tiff between Joe and co-host Mika Brzezinski after Scarborough said her opinion didn’t matter on this subject because she’s a Democrat.)

Below is a lengthy segment from Morning Joe which includes much of Joe’s sanctimonious ranting:

Now, this is all fine and good, but all of Joe’s clucking preening isn’t going to take away the fact that for months and months, he and Mika boosted Trump’s campaign. Immediately after the real estate mogul announced his candidacy, he found a friendly landing spot at Morning Joe. The duo would allow Trump unfettered access to the show, giving him lengthy ‘interviews’ that mostly consisted of the ex-Apprentice host rambling on uninterrupted for minutes at a time.

And even on days where Trump didn’t call in or appear, Joe and Mika would devote entire segments to him, normalizing his behavior and defending him against the doubters. Throughout the primary season, pass after pass was given to Trump over his racism, bigotry and general unhinged nature, with the two hosts chalking it up to lack of political experience. Morning Joe essentially became a Super PAC for Donald Trump as he obtained millions of dollars in free media from the program.

So, sure, Joe has spent past two or three months criticizing Trump for the same shit everyone else has been condemning him over. Bully for him. But, no matter how much retconning JoeScar does, making it seem he was always critical and honest about the spray-tanned wannabe demagogue, it can’t take away the fact that for nearly a year, the program was colloquially known as Morning Trump.

As stated in the beginning of this piece — Joe, you helped build that. Time to own it.
