Go Home, Salon. You’re Drunk: Site Tells Liberals To Vote For Trump Over Hillary

If you are a regular reader of the liberal mag Salon, I’m sure you’ve noticed a certain change towards the absurd lately.

While Salon has been delving further and further down the faux outrage and click-bait rabbit hole for some time now, the candidacy of Bernie Sanders lit a fire of ridiculousness many of the writers and editors of the site. The publication may have finally passed the point of no return on Friday when it comes to being taken even remotely serious as it published the single dumbest HOT TAKE Breitbart would be SO proud piece imaginable.

Yep, sitting there on Friday morning was an article titled ‘A liberal case for Donald Trump: The lesser of two evils is not at all clear in 2016’. The magnum opus’s writer, Walker Bragman, used a bunch of column space to do a multi-point presentation about why Trump was the better candidate for deflated Bernie Bros to vote for this November. There is SO MUCH wrong with this article. Oh so much. So very, very, VERY much.

But don’t take my word for it. Shortly after it was published, Wonkette’s Rebecca Schoenkopf kicked Salon and Bragman right in their dicks for this piece of fuckery. Taking all of Bragman’s points and fisking them to her heart’s content, Schoenkopf revealed just how brain-dead his whole thinkpiece really was. I especially like her taking him to task for seeming to think campaign finance reform is the only thing that matters, like, ever. (Contemptor hearts Wonkette!)

Campaign finance reform has become THE ISSUE for half of 2016’s Democratic primary voters, displacing Obamacare, abortion rights, immigration, religious freedom for Muslims, global warming, the environment, welfare, voting rights, keeping cops from killing black kids, and keeping guns out of the hands of lunatics and two-year-olds and lunatic two-year-olds. So vote for the billionaire, because he ain’t got a super PAC!

The article made an immediate impact on pundits and journalists, as they were dumbstruck by how utterly stupid the whole thing was. (It didn’t help Bragman that he apparently thinks Merrick Garland’s name is Eric.)

But perhaps the person most disappointed and pissed off at Salon was Joan Walsh, who was editor-in-chief of the site until 2010. (She’s now with The Nation after leaving Salon in 2015.)

Walsh has been heavily critical of the site over the past few days, especially as it has published a number of idiotic pieces that are pro-Trump, largely because the writers are upset that Bernie isn’t going to be the Democratic nominee.

Lead #BernieOrBust acolyte HA Goodman pounded out an open letter earlier this week begging the FBI to indict Hillary so Sanders can get the nomination. Editor Patrick L. Smith claimed that since Trump opposed the Iraq War from the beginning — he didn’t, but y’know, facts —  so he’d be a better choice when it came to foreign policy. Earlier this month, Danielle Corcionne instructed young voters to just stay home because superdelegates were unfair and gave her the sads.

Once upon a time, Salon was a good and righteous site that produced quality work. But in the new age of digital media where clicks are a precious commodity and you can’t exist without ad revenue, which is paying out less and less,  it has gone all in on provocation and STRONG opinions. Let’s pour one out for the old Salon. It is dead and gone.

  1. Joan Walsh. I am not a pundit, nor am I especially “political,” though I have been following the race closely this year. EVERY time I read your words, or listen to you live, I am impressed. I am losing respect for Salon. I am not sure why. Gut feeling is usually spot on. If Salon is going South, I hope you rise above and find another portal. Your voice is important, and you should have an appropriate venue in which to enlighten. Thank you for all you do~
