‘Morning Joe’ Panel Mocks Palin For Her “Teddy Bears” Speech, Wonders If She Took “Bad Acid”

If Donald Trump was hoping that there wouldn’t be much fallout from loyal surrogate Sarah Palin’s disastrous speech on Friday night, he had to be disappointed to see his buddies on Morning Joe devote multiple segments to tearing it apart on Monday morning.

During a panel discussion, co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were joined by regular panelists Mark Halperin, John Heilemann, Eugene Robinson and Willie Geist to break down the speech. At this point, the whole thing had already gone viral due to Palin’s insistence that immigrants were being “induced and seduced” to come to America by politicians who were offering “gift baskets of teddy bears and soccer balls.”

Halperin, who was in attendance during Palin’s speech, started things off by being fairly generous to her, claiming it just wasn’t the right crowd and she could’ve been hurt by being a surrogate at a political party event where the other candidates actually showed up. However, Heilemann immediately called out his colleague, saying Halperin was just being nice. (Heilemann also attended the event.) Robinson jumped in, saying it was nothing short of an “unmitigated disaster.”

Earlier in the broadcast, clips from the speech were played, and Joe and Mika were quick to ridicule Palin. Brzezinski displayed fake concern for Palin, putting on a look of horror and asking Heilemann if perhaps they were being too hard on her. Meanwhile, Scarborough and Heilemann both insinuated that perhaps Palin had taken some “bad acid,” with JoeScar referencing ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ and ‘White Rabbit,’ with John confirming it was like the Beatles song.

While Halperin was generally kind to Palin, saying the speech was typical of her and that he’s seen worse ones in his career, Heilemann was definitely less forgiving. While acknowledging it was an official GOP event that may not have been as welcoming to the ‘anti-establishment’ Trump campaign, he mentioned that those in attendance were laughing at her throughout, looking at their phones and shrugging to reporters. All in all, it couldn’t have gone worse for Palin and the Trump team.

However, the main takeaway from this broadcast was just how willing the Morning Joe crew was in going after a Trump supporter. Considering that the current narrative is that Trump is on the ropes and just suffered his worst week of the campaign season, it appears that Joe and Mika are feeling more and more comfortable criticizing the celebrity billionaire.
