Obama To GOPers Blaming Him For Trump: I Wasn’t The One Asking About My Birth Certificate

With it becoming more and more inevitable that rancid bag of pigeon droppings Donald Trump is going to be the Republican nominee for President, some GOPers are taking out their frustration by doing the only thing they know — blame Obama.

In response to this insane idea that he is somehow responsible for a racist, xenophobic, anti-intellectual celebrity billionaire becoming the GOP’s standard-bearer, President Obama said the following at a press conference on Thursday:

“I have been blamed by Republicans for a lot of things, but being blamed for their primaries and who they are selecting for their party is novel. I don’t think that I was the one to prompt questions about my birth certificate, for example. I don’t remember saying, ‘Hey, why don’t you ask me about that?’ or ‘Why don’t you question whether I’m American, or whether I’m loyal or whether I have America’s best interests at heart?’

So what you’re seeing within the Republican Party is, to some degree, all of those efforts over a course of time creating an environment where somebody like a Donald Trump can thrive.

There are thoughtful conservatives who are troubled by this, who are troubled by the direction of their party. I think it is very important for them to reflect on what it is about the politics they’ve engaged in that allows the circus we’ve been seeing to transpire and to do some introspection, because, ultimately, I want an effective Republican Party…in part to challenge some of the blind spots and dogmas in the Democratic Party.”

It should be noted that Trump’s rise as a leader of the Republican Party, and a person who could one day run for the White House, began in earnest in 2011. That’s when The Apprentice star latched onto the birther movement and pushed it into the mainstream. Claiming he had investigators in Hawaii who had found some unbelievable things about Obama’s birth certificate, Trump flirted with the idea of running for the GOP nomination. Of course, the one-two punch of Obama releasing his ‘long-form’ birth certificate, and roasting Trump at the White House Correspondents Dinner, led to Trump dropping the idea at the time.

However, during that brief dalliance with a possible White House campaign, Trump did lead the Republican field in the polls. And it was the appetite for that racist nonsense that likely led him to realize that he could capture the GOP nomination in 2016, especially with a very crowded field.

The GOP did this to themselves. And now that the chickens are coming home to roost, they are looking everywhere but in the mirror for who is at fault.
