Donald Trump Attributes Iowa Loss To Voters Not Appreciating How Rich He Is

Shortly after finishing second in the Iowa GOP caucus to Ted Cruz — and barely ahead of the surging Marco Rubio — Donald Trump surprised the media by giving a short, somewhat gracious concession speech. Having greatly underperformed in the state in comparison to the recent polls, and almost seeing himself overtaken by Rubio, who outperformed predictions, Trump spent only three minutes speaking to his supporters. He then went on Twitter silence the rest of the evening.

Of course, this is The Donald, and he wasn’t going to stay quiet for long. Late Tuesday morning, he finally broke his apparent self-imposed Twitter ban, sending out a series of tweets in which he blamed everyone but himself for his loss in Iowa.

After patting himself on the back for finishing in second, and complaining about the unfair treatment he’s received from the media, the celebrity billionaire then took aim at the voters of Iowa. Yep, a day after heaping all kinds of praise on the state’s wonderful and amazing people, the former reality TV star petulantly whined about them not appreciating his huge stacks of paper.

Calling voters unappreciative ingrates while complaining that running for the highest office in the land isn’t worth it hardly seems like a winning strategy. Sure, Trump has claimed that his supporters will stand by him even if he were to shoot someone, but the disappointing finish in Iowa — despite record turnout — may show that he truly is a paper tiger.

The fact is, his whole campaign is centered on his boasts that he always wins, no matter what. However, in his very first contest, he loses, shattering that illusion. Both Rubio and Cruz received more support than polls showed heading into the caucuses while the real estate mogul underachieved. It brings into question other statewide and national polls and if they will be anywhere close to predictive of the final results.

Will Donald Trump continue to hype his poll numbers moving forward? Will we see attendance dwindle at his rallies now that he’s been exposed as a loser? Will he continue to lash out at the voters he’s supposed to be trying to win over? It will be fascinating to see what occurs over the next few weeks.
