Donald Trump Lies Again, Claims He Saw “Thousands” Of New Jersey Muslims Cheering On 9/11

Over the past week or so, Republican Presidential candidate and 69-year-old third-grade student Donald Trump has made a concerted effort to go even further to the right than his GOP colleagues when it comes to hateful rhetoric towards Muslims. Since the Paris terror attack committed by ISIS, Trump has called for a national database to track Muslims (he’s kinda backed off that a bit) and supported the idea of Muslims wearing special ID badges.

Following up his fascistic policy ideas, Trump told a crowd on Saturday that personally saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheering when the Twin Towers fell on 9/11. Speaking at an Alabama rally — yes, Alabama — the celebrity billionaire tossed out an urban legend that has been refuted numerous times, telling his supporters that a bunch of people gathered in Jersey City to celebrate the terror attacks.

“Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering. So something’s going on. We’ve got to find out what it is.”

Of course, this was the same rally where a protester was punched and kicked by spectators after Trump told security to “get him the hell out of here.” So The Donald was likely playing to the crowd a bit and decided they needed a little more red meat.

During an appearance on ABC’s This Week, the reality TV star defended his remarks to host George Stephanopoulos, saying that it was absolutely true and that he saw it with his own eyes. Stephanopoulos tried his hardest to let Trump know that the whole thing was a myth and New Jersey police had already debunked this stupid urban legend.

From the show’s transcript:

STEPHANOPOULOS: You know, you made — you raised some eyebrows yesterday with comments you made at — at your latest rally — and I want to show them, relating to 9/11.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TRUMP: Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

STEPHANOPOULOS: You know, the police say that didn’t happen and all those rumors have been on the Internet for some time.

So did you meek — misspeak yesterday?

TRUMP: It did happen. I saw it.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You saw that…

TRUMP: It was on television. I saw it.

STEPHANOPOULOS: — with your own eyes.

TRUMP: George, it did happen.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Police say it didn’t happen.

TRUMP: There were people that were cheering on the other side of New Jersey, where you have large Arab populations. They were cheering as the World Trade Center came down. I know it might be not politically correct for you to talk about it, but there were people cheering as that building came down — as those buildings came down. And that tells you something. It was well covered at the time, George.

Now, I know they don’t like to talk about it, but it was well covered at the time.

There were people over in New Jersey that were watching it, a heavy Arab population, that were cheering as the buildings came down. Not good.

STEPHANOPOULOS: As I said, the police have said it didn’t happen.

The thing is, Trump doesn’t give one flying fuck if he is spreading around a deceitful and dangerous lie. For him, he just wants the applause and admiration of his fans, and his fans desire racist and xenophobic rhetoric to further fuel their hate. And hate is the key word here. Hate is what rallies the supporters. Hate binds them. Hate keeps them going. Hate and fear.

So Trump will continue to say this stupid shit and he will continue to get away with it. It doesn’t matter if the mainstream media tried to fact check him and highlight that he is talking out of his ass. He is immune to it all.
