Jeb And Cruz, Who Want To Only Allow Christian Refugees, Think Trump’s Muslim ID Plan Is Too Much

After GOP Presidential frontrunner and orangutan descendant Donald Trump doubled down on his call for American Muslims to wear special ID badges and be entered into a national database, two of his primary opponents went out of their way to show that they weren’t nearly as bigoted and hateful as the reality TV star. Both Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush told the media on Friday morning that they believed Trump’s idea went too far. Bush said it was “outrageous” and played into “people’s angst and their fears” while Cruz objected because he opposes any database tracking citizens.

Appearing on CNBC Friday morning, Jeb! tried to position himself as a reasonable moderate when it comes to the recent Republican freakout over Syrian war refugees and the Paris terror attack. He railed against those calling for internment of refugees and mosque closings as well as Trump’s latest brainfart regarding badges for Muslims.

“You talk about internment, you talk about closing mosques, you talk about registering people — that’s just wrong. It’s not a question of toughness. It’s manipulating people’s angst and their fears. That’s not strength, that’s weakness.”

The supposedly smart Bush made sure to criticize President Obama as well because he’s, you know, running for President and you have to do that. It’s the law.

“There are things that are important as it relates to the values that we have as a country that make us special and unique … and we will never abandon them in the pursuit of this fight. On the left, we have Barack Obama who is constantly saying that anybody who disagrees is bad or he ascribes bad motives. And on the right we have an emerging group as well that would tell us that we should abandon American values. I think we need to be resolute in the fight against Islamic terrorism. Call it what it is, create a strategy, deal with it.”

Of course, this is really fucking rich coming from Jeb 2.0 as he’s contributed greatly to the bigoted fearmongering that has been coming from the right in the days following the Paris attack. Despite the fact that there still isn’t a clear and direct link to refugees fleeing Syria when it comes to the perpetrators involved in the killings, and every attacker identified so far has been a European citizen, conservative pundits and politicians have jumped on board the hate train to justify suspending America’s commitment to take in 10,000 Syrians seeking refuge and asylum. The former Florida governor hopped on for a ride when he said we should only bring in Christian refugees.

Meanwhile, Cruz also distanced himself from Trump on Friday, but did so in a way to make sure The Donald knew he was still a big fan of the celebrity billionaire. The Texas Senator, realizing that he’s opposed gun registration every step of the way because of Big Government and LIBERTY, raised his objection to a Muslim database and badges along those lines.

“I’m a big fan of Donald Trump’s but I’m not a fan of government registries of American citizens. The First Amendment protects religious liberty, I’ve spent the past several decades defending religious liberty.”

On the other hand, Cruz has been probably the most outspoken regarding the refugee crisis as he sees much political hay to be made, pushing for a religious test of those who enter the country seeking asylum. And, in typical Cruz fashion, he’s a complete and utter hypocrite when it comes to the situation. As recently as February, he was all-in on bringing in refugees, stating the United States can vet those coming in and verify that they aren’t affiliated with terrorist organizations. Meanwhile, Cruz’s father was a political refugee from Cuba and entered the United States in the 1950s, a period of time when Cuban migrants were seen as potential Communist sympathizers during our country’s Red Scare. But, to Cruz, the two situations are COMPLETELY different.

Anyway, fuck both of these pandering cowards. You can’t try to back away from Trump’s comments now. You helped build that shit. He just took it to the next logical conclusion. You have to own that shit now.
