Former GOP Congressman Who Hosts Cable News Show Claims Only Democrats Get Hosting Gigs

In an obvious effort to appeal to conservatives who believe in such nonsense, Morning Joe host and former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough tried to make the case that Republicans are under-represented in the media landscape and that only the Democratic point-of-view is considered “objective.” Mind you, this is an avowed Republican, sitting in the host’s chair of a three-hour (soon to be four-hour) weekday morning show, complaining about conservatives not getting any hosting gigs.

Continuing the days long discussion over the whinefest the GOP is having over the supposedly unfair CNBC debate, Scarborough flipped his lid when panelist and political hack Mark Halperin disagreed with the notion that the Republican debates need to have true conservatives moderating them. After Halperin suggested the need for objective journalists, Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski claimed there is no such thing as objective journalism anymore. This then led to Scarborough complaining that Republicans can’t get a foot in the door when it comes to the mainstream media.

“I’m sorry. Walter Cronkite, who we watched every day and we loved Walter Cronkite, he was liberal,” whined Scarborough. “Tim Russert, a guy that I loved and respected, who was the best of the best, was a liberal. Tom Brokaw, I’m guessing Tom, you know how much I love and respect him, I doubt Tom’s voted in the Republican primary before.

So when you say ‘objective,’ we Republicans have been forced to define ‘objective’ as people who are objective Democratic voters. I mean, outside of Brit Hume, who has held a powerful position at ABC, NBC, or CBS in the past 30 years?”

After Halperin pointed out that former Bush White House press secretary Tony Snow served as the host of Fox News Sunday for a while, he eventually agreed with Joe and Mika that poor Republicans just don’t have a chance in today’s media and there is definitely a heavy liberal media bias.

Of course, this is complete and utter bullshit. While one can maybe, MAYBE, claim that network news and large newspapers skew towards the left in their hiring practices and coverage, the fact of the matter is there is one huge cable news empire that is dedicated to providing a conservative view of the news on a daily basis. Also, besides Fox News — once again, why aren’t they mainstream if they have the highest cable ratings? — the entire talk radio landscape is dominated by conservative radio hosts spinning right-wing tales. On top of that, smaller niche cable networks, like One American News and Newsmax, have cropped up to give a more extremely conservative alternative to Fox News.

So, Joe, please stop, OK? You can’t play the aggrieved victim railing against the man when you’ve spent the past decade on TV as a well-paid conservative host.
