“What Are You Going To Do?” Donald Trump Displays Amazing Indifference To Oregon Shooting

It was really only a matter of time before we got Republican Presidential candidate and living piece of belly button lint Donald Trump’s take on the horrific tragedy that occurred at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, and it was pretty much as one would expect from The Donald at this point. While speaking with Willie Geist on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Friday morning, the celebrity billionaire showed once again that he really can’t be bothered to know too much about issues or policies as it pertains to being the leader of free world. Instead, he’d rather just stick with his tried and true tropes and fake his way through.

After Mika and Joe stroked the Trumpster with talk about his poll numbers — big surprise from this duo — Geist asked Trump specifically about his thoughts on the shooting and his feelings on gun control and other potential laws that could make a difference. Of course, the reality TV star is really just used to talking about how awesome he is or in fourth-grade generalities, so commenting on a specific event that doesn’t fit within his extremely limited scope meant that he was just going to try to bullshit his way around the topic.

Answering to how he’d prevent similar incidents like this from happening again if he were POTUS, Trump said that the United States already “has very strong laws on the books” but that we have so many people in this country that you’re “going to have problems.” He followed this up by saying that this can happen all over the world, yet seemed to catch himself and realize that mass shootings are much more common here than other developed nations, claiming that it is “unique” here and that you’ll have “difficulty no matter what.”

This led to the real estate mogul opining about mental health issues and how that was a bigger problem than gun control, likely because he’s heard a lot of other conservatives use this exact same talking point. After saying that you can’t put people into institutions forever because they exhibit some problems, Geist asked him if he just felt that it is a fact of life that people will slip through the cracks. That is when we got a stream of consciousness from Trump that shows he hadn’t really given this issue any real thought, and he figured he could just toss out a Trumpian mish-mash and be done with it.

“Well, you know, it’s not politically correct to say that but you’re going to have difficulty and that would be for the next million years, you’re going to have difficulty. People are going to slip through the cracks and even if you did great mental health programs, people are going to slip through the cracks. It’s the same old story. But what are you going to do? There are many people like that and what are you going to do? Institutionalize everybody? So you’re going to have difficulties. You’re going to have difficulties with many different things, not just this. That’s the way the world works, and by the way, that’s the way the world always has worked.”

That is a pretty remarkable display of apathy and indifference there. Sure, while talking to Geist he used his normal adjective and adverbs in order to accentuate how ‘passionate’ he is about the issue, but just from that paragraph above, you can tell he really couldn’t give a shit. He knows that the far-right voters that are in love with him are also huge fans of guns, so he cannot say one bad thing about firearms or the Second Amendment. (The most sacred amendment of them all!) Therefore, he has to take the position of improving mental health treatment while making sure not to mention guns in negative way.

Congratulations, Donald! You are just like every other Republican candidate. Way to go!
